Locksmith Business

Setting up your own business can be very rewarding, not just financially but being your own boss and setting your own hours and workload is a dream come true for many people.
No new business should be entered with out first doing you research which will include how big is your market, what is the level of completion and what level of skills will be required.
Before you start a business plan you may won’t to contact a already established business outside of your region for advice. For this article we contacted Locksmith Nottingham who have been trading as locksmiths in Nottingham for 60 years and asked what basics would be needed to start.
“Before you advertise to be a locksmith you HAVE to have completed training to a level that you are competent to be able to open locks in the first instance, there are courses available that state you can learn the basics in 3-5 days but these courses are not going to give you the skill level to open such a range of locks that you will meet on a daily basis. Really you should look to do a apprenticeship if available or in job training with a established locksmith. Once your training is complete you will need to be assessed with a leading locksmith trade body like MLA or LockSmart. Once approved you will require a means of transport preferably sign written so you can advertise on the move, a complete set of tools and plenty of stock.”
They added “advertising is a must unless your the only available locksmith in your region, so a website and adding your self to local business directories is a must – it may seem like a slow precession at the start but as you build your business you’ll gain a reputation and word will spread leading to contract work and a greater continuity but don’t forget about ongoing training, new products and services are released daily and you need to be one step ahead”.
